Rescue Bling Bling

The majority of us who own dogs have rescued them. Nikita and Bella were rescue dogs too, who found their forever home with us. They are now happy & healthy dogs who go about life with all the toys in the world, and are loved each and every day.

WAG AWARE TAGI entered a contest back in December on (You have to check out their dog Kayo, because Kayo looks just like Bella) with high hopes of winning.  In fact, I did win!  I won two WagAware charms and they arrived today!

If you have not heard of WagAware, please check out their website at as their tags help promote dog rescue and adoption and they donate 50% of each sale to dog rescue charities.  WagAware was launched back in June, and not even a year has gone past and they have donated $18,500 to dog rescue charities from the sale of their charms.  If you would like to pick up a charm for your rescued dog, each WagAware Charm is $14.95.  Aren’t the charms adorable? And, they don’t clang against your other dogs tags either and the coolest part is, they “glow in the dark”.

We would like to thank BoingyDog and WagAware for the beautiful charms that we received today.  Both Nikita and Bella are already wearing their charms proudly and are happy that they have found their forever home. Now, when we head out for walks, they can show off their new rescue bling bling!

We take animal rescue seriously too, as we participate annually with the APL and collect donations for their rescue efforts in their Pledge For Pets Fundraiser.  So keep on the look out for our upcoming posts on this event and we hope that everyone who is reading this can find it in their heart to make a donation this year.

You know me, I had to take a bunch of photographs of the dogs for this post, as they had to show off their new charms.  With all dog photo sessions, you always get some good bloopers too…

A girl, and even a dog, can’t have enough bling bling!

One Year Ago Today We Changed a Dog’s Life

Val Uncle Dave Bella and Roy

One year ago today we made a life-changing difference in a dog’s life. We gave Bella her new “Forever Home”.

Bella was found wandering the streets of Cleveland as a very young puppy. Someone disposed of her. Who knows if Bella had other siblings.

BELLA 9-8-12

We made a difference in a dog’s life by rescuing Bella from all the perils she endured while on the streets, and gave her a warm happy home. She has a place where she can lay her weary head to rest. She has all the food she wants, a snuggly place to nap, a loving sister in Nikita, toys galore, and all the treats she could ever dream of. Not all dogs are this lucky.

We were also lucky the day we met Bella. We went to check out an event that the APL was holding in the hopes that we could find a little playmate for Nikita. We were not particular in any certain breed, but wanted to give yet another dog a good forever home with us. The second we saw Bella drive up in a car arriving at this event on the lap of an APL employee, we knew that she was the one. We basically watched where they were taking her so we could snag her immediately and that is exactly what we did. She was so small and we fell in love with her immediately. She was brindle in color, and at the time, I did not know what brindle meant, so I looked it up when I got home. Brindle refers to her tiger striping & coloring. We are still unsure as to what breed of dog she is, although on her paperwork it stated part collie. I find that hard to believe as Bella has not one characteristic of a collie. No matter what she is, we love her from the top of her soft as silk ears right down to her curled warbly tail.

Bella has so much energy & spunk and that’s what makes Bella, well, Bella!  She has the best personality and definitely knows more of the English language than most high school graduates, and we find ourselves having to spell in the front of the dogs now.  Geez, is this what the world is coming to?  LOL

Bella is a good listener.  She walks on a leash very well, greets other dogs with a good butt sniff or two, and definitely alerts us to any critters who get anywhere near the house.  But, at the end of the night, when we all retire to lay down our weary heads, she always comes over and gives us both a good night kiss, and then snuggles with Mommy for a few minutes, then heads off to la-la land on her own fluffy bed.  What a sweet girl!

Bella and Nikita Snuggling 12-11-12

Bella is the perfect match for being Nikita’s sidekick. They are always by each others side and are always playing with each other.  (we have probably more than 50 toys in their toy box, but they always have to play with the “same one”.  When one picks up a toy, the other one wants THAT toy)

I definitely think that both Nikita and Bella can be partners in crime too because they like dressing up.  Perhaps these are their super hero outfits.

Bella Im So Cool

All that we know, is that we have two of the best dogs around and we are so happy to give them both a “Forever Home” with us and make sure that they will never have to worry where their next meal is coming from.

We love you Nikita and Bella!

Happy Birthday Bella

The calendar on our fridge says that it’s my birthday tomorrow (6/29), and I don’t know what a birthday is, because this is my First Birthday that I am celebrating.  I don’t know where I came from, but all I know is that I was found wandering on the streets when I was really tiny until I was rescued by my Mommy & Daddy and they gave me a forever home.

From the day I was rescued, I have been treated like a princess and have been provided everything in the world.  I have a wonderful home to live in, good food to eat, and endless supply of treats, an overflowing box with toys to play with, a great Sister (Nikita) whom I get to play with every day, the best Mommy & Daddy in the world, and a fluffy bed to snuggle in when I need to lay my head down to rest.

Life is good.  From walks everyday with Mommy, to the attention that I get each and every day, the endless hugs and kissies, to the pampering of paw wipes when I come in from a rainy lawn, to the baths that I get when I roll in something in the yard, to the ice cubes Mommy puts in my water bowl, and all the tricks I am taught how to do.  A never ending supply of love.

Mommy and I also do something really fun together.  She started doing this with me when I was younger and it just stuck with me.  Since she is always in the kitchen cooking awesome dinners for Daddy, she has to put on these huge mitts every time she opens up that big thing that cooks their food, and when she does….I go into action.  I wait for her to close the door on that food cooking thing (as she tells me to stay away when she opens the door because it is hot), but when the door closes, she puts her mitts up in the air and….. we box!  Yep, Mommy and I are dooking it out in the kitchen, going round and round in circles, as she throws soft punches at my face, and I fight right back and smack her mitts with my front paws. I can stand on my hind legs pretty good, so this is fun for me.  But, what is neat that Mommy taught me, is that when she goes “Ding Ding” to end our boxing round, I sit down.  She then pulls the gloves out from behind her back and we box again, going round and round in circles.  “Ding Ding” the round ended, and I sit down.  It is the most hilarious thing in the world, and Daddy sits and watches us and laughs really hard.

I am so thankful for all the wonderful times that have been shared with me and mostly, I am thankful for being rescued from the streets and placed in my forever home as this is the happiest place on the face of the earth.

Here are some of my favorite photographs of my wonderful life!

Oh no, I already found Daddy’s wine in the fridge!

I am king of the world on my tire toy!

My first Hoodie, don’t I look adorable in it!

The calendar says it is my birthday and now I know what birthdays are all about! Birthdays celebrate our life and our happiness with those who share it with us. Birthdays are special, and my first birthday is one that I will never forget.  Thank you Daddy & Mommy for showering me with so much love & affection and giving me a forever home, a place that I can call my own.  Woof.

Happy Birthday to me!
