Tick Tick Tick, Time is Running Out

The clock is tick tick ticking as time is running out to donate to the APL for their 2012 Fundraiser, Pledge For Pets.  We are doing our part and getting the word out to everyone we know, but we are behind in reaching our goal of collecting $1,000.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!  Even a $5 donation can help, so don’t think that donating such a small amount can’t possibly be helpful, it is!  Even making a donation of $25 is about $0.83 for 30 days and that would feed a lot of animals in that time.

All of the animals in need at the APL have a story to tell, where one day they lived with someone who took care of them, and the next day, they were out on the streets, looking for food, shelter.  Or how about those people who move and leave their animals behind to fend for themself.  All of their stories are quite heartbreaking.  For example, we adopted our dog when she was only two months old from the APL, and she came from a litter of seven.  Their dog mommy was poisoned with anti-freeze and died, so the puppies needed immediate care.  That is where the APL came in and rescued all seven of the puppies and nursed them round the clock.  And, we also adopted two kittens who were brother & sister that were left in a box outside a church.  How sad is that!

We all know that times are hard, but who takes care of all the animals who can’t help themself?  The APL does, and this is why they need our help.  Online donations for this fundraiser ends on May 6th, so pass our donation link for the APL onto someone you know who loves animals and wants to help us raise donations to help those furry friends who need our help.  We appreciate all the help we can get, not to mention, it will benefit the animals in need.

Make A Donation – Win A Doormat Giveaway

NIKITALAND and THEMES N THINGS are dedicated to collecting donations for the APL for their 2012 Pledge For Pets fundraiser this year!   Warmer weather brings new challenges for the APL, because each Spring they find cardboard boxes left outside their front door filled with unwanted and frightened kittens and puppies.  They have no mother, no home, and no hope at life until the APL steps in.  You can help by making a donation to the APL.  http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/themesnthings/2012-doggy-dollars-kitty-kash   Any dollar amount will help, raid your piggy bank, add up your pocket change, as it all adds up!  If we all work together collectively, we can help those animals that need our help, the ones left in cardboard boxes because someone stopped loving them.

We are giving away one of our Halloween props, a Skull & Web Doormat that measures 18″ x 30″ and is made of light weight durable Eva foam.  You can put this doormat by your front door, in front of your kitchen sink, or even use in front of your bathtub.  Our Giveaway starts today and runs until the end of April.

The Chicken That Laid The Golden Eggs

It has been a really great week here in Cleveland, OH as we have had the best weather you could only dream of for March, and since the weather has been cooperating with temps in the high 70’s to 80’s, Mommy decided to pull out her Evolv Jigsaw and some wood and made some Easter crafts.

First, she had an idea to create some “different” Easter eggs for decoration and bought a bag of those plastic eggs that you would fill with jelly beans for $1.99, and then she picked up a can of Rust-oleum Metallic Gold spray paint.  She opened them up and lightly sprayed each egg gold and after they were dry, she placed them in a nice decorative container with some moss.  Instant Easter charm for the table!

Next, she took out some wood and cutout two different bunny shapes that she drew by hand and traced them on the wood.  Since her Evolv Jigsaw works beautifully and cuts through the wood like butter, she was able to make a stack of these bunnies with ease.  She then sanded them and spray painted them with Rust-Oleum Candy Pink.  The one bunny design actually stands on its own, so it was a perfect addition to a table top or bookshelf, the bunny face will hang on the front door adorned with a pink bow.

So what do you think of Mommy’s Easter crafts?  As you can see, it has been a very crafty week over here and since the creativity has been flowing, Mommy decided to have some fun with some of my photographs too.

I will be heading back outside later to soak up the sun and play with my toys!  How will you be spending your weekend?  What plans do you have?

Mornings Are For Napping

Not much has to be said about lazy mornings, and I definitely do my part at joining in.  Every morning after I have a good breakfast, I retire to my favorite couch to take a nap, but that is right after I check out what is going on in the neighborhood and do some window watching.  Then it’s nap time!

RESULTS: Pledge for Pets Radiothon

Allan Fee, Mommy, Daddy & Me

Hey everyone, it’s me, Nikita!  It was all about the pets… from every shape and size, doggie, kitty, bunny, or birdie, the 2011 Pledge for Pets Radiothon came to a close on Saturday, May 14th.  Jen Toohey and Allan Fee from Q104 were the on-the-air radio personalities that hosted this event at the Cleveland APL and helped raise donations that totaled $124,745.52!  That is absolutely outstanding and this money will go to such a great cause, helping all of the pets in need that can’t help themselves.  You see, all of these pets at the APL were either rescued from horrible conditions or were surrendered by their owners because they could not take care of them any longer, and all of your donations will help with their much needed medical care, food, water, and electricity for the building, and so much more.

EVERY animal needs a second chance for love and a good home, EVERY animal at the APL has a story behind them (just like I do, as I was adopted from the APL and got a second chance for love & a good home), and their stories are heart-breaking as you listen to them.  You want to adopt them all, you just do, as every pet that the great people at the APL takes care of, they get attached to them so quickly, which is understandable because they are pet lovers with great big hearts!  I could not be happier with my new home & life with my Daddy & Mommy, and I got that chance for happiness the day I rode home with them & was sitting on my new Mommy’s lap.  I was going home…. to somewhere I would be loved, cherished, taken care of, played with every day, fed, and always knew that a spot would be saved for me at the foot of their bed for me to snuggle every night when I closed my eyes.  Pure happiness is what I got!

"Uncle Dave", Me & Daddy

Daddy, Mommy & I made a surprise visit to the APL on Saturday to check out the Pledge for Pets Radiothon.  We met a nice guy from the APL in the parking lot and he remembered me when I was a little puppy and said that he remembered me “smelling like fish”. (not sure what all that was about, but why did I smell like a fish? ) We also got to meet Jen Toohey and Allen Fee from Q104 (we even got to meet Glen Anderson on our way out, he’s the funny song guy at Q104) and Glen’s little cutie of a daughter even got to pet me!  When we walked into the room where the Radiothon was set up, I heard a voice say, “Nikita“!

My APL Friend

Man, everyone knows me at this place!  I got to see all of my favorite APL friends, from Judy Hunter, to Sharon Harvey, my Foster Mom Brea, Uncle Dave (Dave was the nice guy that helped Daddy & Mommy adopt me, that’s why he has a special place in our hearts) and many others that just reached out and hugged me and was surprised at how big I got.   We hung around for awhile to watch the Radio Show live and it was the neatest thing that we ever experienced.  Some of the “Phone Bankers” that were taking the calls for donations even wanted to meet me, so I gladly strolled over to them, strutting my stuff (of course) to receive lots of hugs from them.  I even passed out lots of my blog cards to everyone that I met, so that they can now follow me and watch me grow up!  (One cannot have too many friends, or followers)  I even donated $1 and 2 puppy treats in a little bag to one of the Phone Bankers (even though I sniffed the bag a few times and kinda wanted my treats back), but I wanted everyone to know that Daddy, Mommy, and I personally collected for the APL a total of $174 + my $1 = $175 and we did our part as a Pledge for Pets Captains.  Every little bit helps and I wanted to personally thank all of the people who donated through our First Giving link for the APL – WE APPRECIATE YOUR DONATIONS & GENEROSITY!

All in all, it was a great day for the APL, as your generous donations will make a difference in the care and welfare of a pets life, and ultimately….finding them a “Forever Home“.  Thank you APL for all that you have done for me, you will forever be in my heart!

Warm Puppy Kisses to you…

Puppy Magnetism

Today is going to be my last blog post, as I am hanging it all up!  Ha – April Fools!  Never would I leave you, my fellow followers, on all the things that I am up to on a daily basis, as I am one busy puppy!  Mommy helped me tweak my photo in her photo editing software and I think it turned out really neat.  If I were to put a caption under it, it would probably say…”You are getting sleepy…” or “If I stare at you long enough without blinking, can I get a treat?”

We watched American Idol last night, and we had guessed correctly on “who” was being sent home.  We were just so glad to see, that even though he was on the bottom 3, that Paul ended up being “safe”.  Phew!  Did you know that you can vote online at www.americanidol.com 50 times per person?  We just found that out, but you need to have a Facebook account to do so.  Just a little tid bit that I wanted to share.

I also wanted to say that my wonderful Mommy hurt her knee.  We are still unsure on how she did it, but it is all swollen and she is having a hard time walking on it.  She is putting ice on it, and I sit by her to keep her company and to lick the drips of water from the bag of ice.  Daddy is being a real sweetheart and is helping Mommy out all he can because he loves Mommy so much. (Thanks Daddy)  I hope Mommy gets better soon so she can play with me outside!

Last, but not least, I want to remind everyone that we only have ONE MONTH left to collect donations for the APL for the Doggie Dollars & Kitty Kash.  The APL needs YOUR help and if my fellow followers can donate something….anything… even $1, it will all help the poor unfortunate animals at the APL get all the things that they need.  Click link below to donate – Help us raise money for the APL!  Thank you all in advance of your generosity!

Have a great April Fool’s Day!

Fire at Cleveland APL

I just read some horrible news online about the Cleveland APL, as it appears that a dryer motor caught fire this morning and exposed approximately 100 cats to noxious smoke.  The smoke alarm traumatized the cats, but none of them were injured.

The APL now needs a new dryer, so if anyone can donate one, give them a call asap!   This was a very unfortunate incident, and a good reason to think about donating to this nonprofit group that needs your help for the Pledge for Pets Funraiser.  Any dollar amount will help all of the animals in need – DONATE TODAY through this link:  http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/themesnthings/2011-doggy-dollars-kitty-kash

With loving thoughts,

I Don’t Look Good in Green

I was looking out the kitchen window this morning watching all the traffic go by, like I do every morning, and I happen to notice that everyone has “green” on.  I turned around and asked Mommy why everyone was wearing the same color today.  She said it’s St. Patrick’s Day and that people celebrate this day by wearing all green, funny hats, beads, weird glasses, and drink green beer, and oh yeah, there is a great big parade too.  I don’t get it….  who would want to wear all green?  My color is pink, I LOVE pink!  So I will not be wearing any green today, just my normal pink color that I love.

There is also another reason to celebrate today, as it’s my Daddy’s Boss’s Birthday today!  I made a really neat birthday card for him and worked on it all day yesterday, so I hope he likes it.  Anyhow, just wanted to give a shout out to him and say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG GUY“, hope you have a great day!  Woof woof!

I think that Comic Relief hit our place last week, because Mommy did something last week that started a whole lot of laughter.  You see, Mommy took one of our huge round Halloween tubs that we use for candy and put a little pillow inside it for the kitties.  Thoughtful act, right?  Sure it is, but now we have either a “whine fest” or a “game of tag” going on with the cats.  When

This is MY tub!

one cat sits in the tub, the other one whines that they are not in it, and so on.  Then, whoever is in the tub, the other cat waps the cat in the tub on the head to get out.  (this has been going on for days now, with no relief in sightSilly cats… Tag, your it!

I also wanted to write again that I am collecting donations for the Cleveland APL Pledge for Pets.  No matter how much you can donate, $1, $5, or more, this money will help all of the pets in need at the APL.  THEY NEED YOUR HELP!  All of your donations are tax deductible too!  To donate online, click on this link http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/themesnthings/2011-Doggy-Dollars-Kitty-Kash

We appreciate your donations, I appreciate your donations because, don’t forget that I was adopted too from the APL and I got a second chance for love and a great home.  And, without the APL’s help, I might not have made it as I fought for my life in the beginning.  Now, I’m one happy puppy!

Have a great green pink day!
Love always – Nikita
