Pay It Forward

pay-it-forwardOn January 7, 2015, my dear friends over at Pig Love and I have started our monthly Pay It Forward Campaign and asked for all of our fellow bloggers to join in with us, as we head out into the world to do good deeds. One good deed deserves another.

BELLA PIF1

Our goal for our Pay It Forward Campaign is to change the world, a little bit at a time, by one good deed at a time, and perhaps change the way we look at the world and others. Think about it…don’t you feel really special when someone does something for you when you least expect it? I bet you do, and that is how we want others to feel too!

BELLA PIF3

Once a month, Pig Love and Nikitaland will meet up with all of our fellow bloggers to see what good deeds we have all done in the prior month. This is in no part meant for us to brag, but rather share what we are doing to Pay It Forward and making someones day special. We want to hear what you have done as it can inspire others to do the same. Simple gestures that we might take for granted may mean more to another person.

BELLA PIF2

Here are some of the Good Deeds I have done since January til today:

  • Each and every Wednesday, I brought up our neighbors garbage cans
  • Surprised my Sweetie with some homemade cookies (yes, good deeds start at home too!)
  • Shoveled neighbors sidewalks & driveways
  • Washed my Sweetie’s car & cleaned all the windows
  • Shoveled a path through the field to KMart

PIF SHOVELED WALK TO KMART

I shoveled this path all the way across the field up to KMart. There are a lot of people in our neighborhood (including me) that normally walk up to KMart and I thought it would be nice if I shoveled a path for us to walk on. Instead of trudging through the high snow, I made it a little easier for everyone to get to the store!

So, if you are joining in with us on our Pay It Forward Campaign, leave a comment saying “I’m In!” and tell us the good deeds you have done! And in case you missed it, I made some nice Pay It Forward “My Good Deeds” lists that you can print out to keep track of all the good deeds you have done. You can print it out, hang it on your fridge, to jot down things that you have done during the month, and then the next time we meet up, you can share what you have done to Pay It Forward!

Our next PIF meet up will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 so mark your calendars!

I also created a PAY IT FORWARD board on Pinterest and if you would like an invite to pin to this board, let me know!

pay it forward braceletP.S. – In case you want a Pay It Forward bracelet too, you can get them here! It is a great reminder to join in with us and Pay It Forward!

P.S.S. – Wasn’t that nice of Bella to help out with this post? No matter HOW you wear your Pay It Forward bracelet, it would mean the world to someone to do something nice for them today!

NIKITALAND: 2014 in Review

The 2014 Year in Review Stats are in, and what a year it has been for Nikitaland! I just wanted to personally thank each & every one of you for contributing to these awesome stats. Without YOU, none of this would have been possible! Thank you for following along with Nikitaland this past year and we look forward to another awesome year of blogging with you!

Click on Nikitaland’s full report below and find out if you made it on the list for the most comments!

Here’s an excerpt:

Madison Square Garden can seat 20,000 people for a concert. This blog was viewed about 61,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Madison Square Garden, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Happy New Year

“I think the hardest part of a new year is remembering to write the correct year on your checks.”

When a new year rolls around, the first thing everyone thinks about are resolutions. Going on a diet is always first on the list, eating better, yadda yadda yadda, but why make any resolutions if you aren’t going to really truly keep them?  It must be me, but I don’t make them any more. Everyone starts off the new year with great stride trying to keep to their resolutions, but it fizzles out within a month.  “Dieting” gets boring when that chocolate donut looks good and you actually eat it, “be a better person” goes down the drain when you curse at the first person who cuts you off in the parking lot, or “save money” gets flushed down the drain when you find that purse that you “have” to buy.

I have to chuckle at those who make a huge deal about their resolutions have have to tell everyone what they are.  They talk about them all the time, but in the end, they too fail at keeping them.  Why can’t you just actually BE a better person, each and every day?  Be nice to those around you!  Make it a habit to do so, and it becomes part of your every day routine, and not something “hard” to do.

I have always been a firm believer that “if you WANT to do SOMETHING, DO IT”.  You hear people all the time say, I wish I had more time to read a book.  Geez, this one is easy to fix, MAKE the time to sit down quietly and read a chapter!  Whether it’s 10 minutes you set aside to read every day, just do it.  Stop talking about it!  It drives me nuts when you hear people talk about “one day” I’m gonna do _______.  Make the time to do it!

When a new year approaches and we turn yet another page on the calendar, one of the things that are high on everyone’s list is getting organized.  Organization takes some skill, and not everyone has the knack to organize.  If you want to organize something, ask a friend to help you, or look up some great tips on Pinterest for inspiration.  One little thing that I did a few months ago to organize the cabinet where I keep all the bags, foil, and saran wrap etc., was to get those cheap plastic magazine holders and stand up all of my long wrap boxes in them.  This has been a lifesaver as I no longer have to hunt for the box I want!

With organization in mind, I created for all of you some little Blog Post Lists to help you organize your upcoming posts!  I don’t know about you, but when I get an idea for a blog post, I write it down on a little sticky note….. well, I am being invaded with sticky notes posted all over the wall where my laptop is, so I wanted to get rid of them and replace them.  So, let’s start off the new year with organized blog posts!  Get your ideas written down on these little lists and it will help you organize your weekly posts. Click here to see what I created for you: START OFF THE NEW YEAR WITH ORGANIZED BLOG POSTS!

Happy New Year to all of you, and if you have made some resolutions for this year, I wish you luck & hope you keep them.  Just remember, no matter what you want to do in life, like find time to read that book, save some extra cash, or take a cake decorating class, you won’t ever be able to get these done if YOU don’t make & take the time to do them. Don’t let life pass you by, experience it!

And, don’t forget that your checks need 2014 on them now! LOL

Holiday Cookie Exchange

HOLIDAY COOKIE EXCHANGESThe holidays are quickly approaching, and you all know what that means…holiday baking!  Boy oh boy do I love this time of year when we get to head into the kitchen and bake up batches of our favorite goodies.

With that in mind, I had a great idea!  I wanted to host the First Annual Holiday Cookie Exchange here at Nikitaland!  Woo Hoo!  It’s time for you to share those special cookie and/or dessert recipes with the rest of us!

If you would like to join in our Cookie Exchange, here is what you need to do:

  • Email me your recipe (one recipe only)
  • Make sure you also attach a photo of your finished cookie or dessert (take a good close-up photo too!)
  • Include your name & blog’s name/web address so I can give you kudos on your recipe
  • Include your location (ie: state or country)

Once I collect all of the recipes, I will create a Cookie Exchange PDF for all of you so you can printout everyone’s recipes!

Last day for recipe submission is November 30th, as I need time to format all of the recipes & the photo’s into the PDF.  Any questions, let me know!  I hope everyone joins in and gets into the holiday spirit with us!

FYI:  I will be sharing my three layer Red Velvet Cake & Homemade Frosting with you, all from scratch, so stay tuned!

VERSATILE BLOGGER AWARD FROM RADMAVERIX 11-3-13

The Versatile Blogger Award is given to bloggers who possess excellence and love in their writing, uniqueness, and of course, quality in photographs. I have been blogging since September of 2010 and currently have over 80,000 views!  WOW!

Rules:

In order to accept this award I must tell 7 facts about myself, display the award and then nominate 15 deserving bloggers for the VBA.

So here are seven things about ME:

  1. I love power tools!  Being a crafty gal, I can’t wait to get my hands on them & make something awesome!
  2. I used to work as a professional landscaper!  So it is no surprise why I love working in our yard making everything look beautiful.  I built stone walls, installed hand cut stone sidewalks, sprinkler systems, drove a Bob Cat, big dump trucks and tractors to grade customers lawns.
  3. We have two dogs whom we rescued from the APL!  They are the best dogs around.  They are the perfect match for each other too, as they always look out for each other & give each other kissies all the time.
  4. I have the best boyfriend ever! (Who puts up with my crap. LOL)
  5. I am a huge fan of Law & Order, American Idol, and Master Chef.
  6. I love to cook, and always wanted to take a professional cooking class.  That’s why Master Chef is so inspiring to watch.
  7. My favorite all-time snack food is chips & salsa.
