Visitors Galore!

Hey everyone!  It’s me, Nikita!  I just wanted to announce that yesterday I hit 6,000 visitors.  WOW, that is pretty good for a dog, eh?  The funny thing is, is that I started this blog when I was adopted last year because it got hard and time consuming to email family and friends my photographs of me as a puppy, so I decided to start a blog where everyone could go to see what I was up to.  Who knew that it would grow with leaps and bounds with so many followers in a little under a year, that is something that still amazes me.  I am not sure as to what got you here on my blog, what you typed in as a search keyword and found me, or perhaps you saw my comments on someone elses blog & clicked over to see me, whatever the case may be, I want to thank each and every one of you for visiting, stopping by to read an article, or subscribing to my blog!  I appreciate it so much!

I promise to keep up the good work and bring you interesting articles, not only about me, but about us dogs and how we have fun in life.  I have written important articles on what to do if we get stung by a bee (you need to check out that article & print it out for future reference), the importance of introducing all of my toys to you (the total amount of my squeaky toys have grown a lot lately!  Toys to me is as important as shoes are to a girl!  Can’t have enough of them!), the importance of playing hard with your toys and how they can end up in the “Pet Hospital” on top of the fridge until Mommy fixes them, (the insurance deductibles have been exceeded on some of my toys), how to wait for your Daddy by the front window every night when he returns home from work (then you go crazy when he walks into the house), how to bark properly, why eating mulch is not a good thing for us dogs, how fun it is to eat hail in your yard after a storm, and lots more fun stuff!  So, stay tuned, visit often, and follow me as I grow up!  Thanks again for visiting!

Smoochies & Hugs to you,
Love Nikita

When Friday the 13th Meets the Hamburglar

It all started with a piece of…mulch.  Well, actually, it started on Thursday the 12th for me and led into Friday the 13th, which doesn’t surprise me on how it ended.  You know us dogs, we like to investigate, we like to sniff, and we love to eat things that we are not supposed to, like mulch, for example.  This is exactly what I did.  Unfortunately for me, I found out the hard way that eating mulch is NOT a good thing for dogs in general, and definitely as it turns out, NOT a good thing for me.  I am so inquisitive about, well…everything, and all of that stuff around Mommy & Daddy’s flowers looked good enough to…eat, and that is what I ended up doing – eating the mulch!  I found out the hard way that this is something that us dogs should not eat because it can make us sick, and sick to the stomach is what I got, not to mention what happens on “the way out” of our stomach when we, well…have to “go” – “It’s not a pretty sight” of what is left in the grass.

If you remember in one of my earlier posts this week, I had to go to the “V E T S” to get my nails trimmed, and you all know how much I hate that, not to mention on what a baby I am about it all, well….because of my “mulch eating“, I had to head back to the “V E T S” on Friday morning because I got sick and threw up.  (Bummer for me)  “Oh no, not this place again!” is what I said to Mommy when we drove up to the “V E T S” and I started to wonder “what in the heck did I do to deserve to come to this place (again)“.  I sat with Mommy in the waiting room and actually kinda hid behind her chair for a bit before I heard my name being called (again).  I knew that today’s visit was NOT going to be a good thing, I just knew it.  Immediately entering the room, I was swooped off my feet and placed on that cold steel table (Mommy was right there by me comforting me as usual) by the nice Doctor and his assistant.  No matter how sweet that guy talked to me, I did not want him messing around with my “back end” and taking my temperature, but that is what happened.  Eeeeek!   At least I found out that  my temperature was normal, but I was being sent home with some prescription medicine and special prescription dog food to eat over the weekend.  So, did you think that I learned my lesson that I should not eat mulch?  Probably not, but I hope that I don’t have to go through this again because having a sour stomach is not a fun thing at all.

Well, don’t think that the fun Friday the 13th festivities ended with that trip to the vets, as it got worse!  I spent most of the day trying to recover from a sick stomach, took a few naps to rest, and waited for Daddy to come home from work.  Then “it” happened.  I did the unthinkable…. while Mommy stepped outside for a few minutes, I….well, helped myself to the plate that had their dinner on it that she was thawing – hamburgers & hot dogs.  I ate the whole raw hamburger right off the plate that was sitting on top of the stove behind Mommy’s back!  When Mommy came back into the house, I ran up to her with such a smile on my face (and at that moment she did not know what I had done yet) but, she did….seconds later when she went to get the plate off the stove and saw only the hot dogs laying there.  She ran to the window to tell Daddy what I just did, then grabbed the phone to call the “VETS” to see what she should do for me.   They ended up telling her that since I am already on medicine for a sick stomach, that I should be ok & that for dogs eating a raw hamburger is not the same thing as a human eating it, so I lucked out….luckily.  Sooooo, Mommy & Daddy watched me all night long to make sure that I did not, well you know…throw up again (and to my & their surprise, I did not).

So, the moral of this story is never is it a good thing to eat mulch (but we’ll do it anyways because we’re dogs) and Friday the 13th & bad things do happen in a goofy kind of way.  (at least no black cats crossed my path that day)  And, Daddy, I promise to try to not eat things that I shouldn’t. (fingers paws crossed)

Mulch is not our friend…
Love & puppy burgers, Nikita

Reasonable Expectations

Glad I’m Home

It’s reasonable to expect to be a little scared when you hear the word “vets“, and today was no different reaction when I heard them.  Mommy took me today to the “V E T S” to get my nails trimmed (and boy oh boy did they need it) and although we had a nice car ride there, watching all the cars go by, and trying to sniff at people in the car next to me, the uncomfortable feeling arose when we drove into the usually busy (but at the time we went, no one was in the parking lot) parking lot at the “V E T S“.  I thought perhaps we were somewhere, anywhere different than this place, but I was wrong.  Mommy walked around and got me out of the car and I felt panicky, but walked with her through the front door of “smell heaven” (oh the smells of other dogs are all over this place).  When we got inside, we noticed a somewhat smaller dog than me who apparently got bit by another dog on his nose and needed some medical attention.  That doggie seemed sad (just like me, but only because I knew where I was), but he was sad because his nose must have hurt and I can understand that.  Me?  I was just being a BIG Baby, that’s all.  When I heard them call my name, I went “uh oh” and a nice lady came out to get me.  Man did I try my darndest to try to run, but that floor was slippery and she ended up finally getting me in behind the front counter and then I heard the counter door slam shut behind me. Noooooo!  Where’s my Mommy?  Mommmmmmmy!!!   Mommy could not save me, this time, but I was not gone long and was back in my Mommy’s arms getting treats and hugs from her.  I did find out though, that I now weigh 54.2 lbs.  (wait til Daddy hears that!)

Mommy and I are going to spend some time together today outside picking weeds from the flower beds, and planting flower seeds since it is nice and sunny.  Daddy got me a new lead tie-off for the backyard, so I can now run around all over (& get into trouble – or into the mulch) and chase my ball or frisbee.  Hopefully Mommy can get some good photographs of me sunning myself!

Have a great Mulch-Eating sunny day,
