WE NEED YOUR HELP: 2012 Pledge for Pets, Doggie Dollars & Kitty Kash

IF YOU ARE READING THIS, WE NEED YOUR HELP TO COLLECT DONATIONS FOR THE APL

It is that time of year again, as we have started our annual drive to collect donations for the APL for their 2012 Pledge For Pets Radiothon, Doggie Dollars & Kitty Kash.  Your donations go directly to the APL through First Giving, and our part in this process is that we are Q-Cash Captains and assist the Pledge For Pets Radiothon collect donations for the APL.  Here is the link to Donate today:  http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/themesnthings/2012-doggy-dollars-kitty-kash

We did this last year for the first time, and we wanted to get involved again this year and do our part in this much needed cause.  We have setup a goal to collect $1,000, and we truly feel we can reach our goal, but we need your help to do so.  Without the APL, Nikita might not have made it, as she came from a litter of seven and after her dog Mom gave birth, she was poisoned with anti-freeze and died.  Her puppies were in danger of dying, so the APL rescued them and fed them around the clock as they fought for their life.  The puppies got a foster Mom (thanks Brea!) from the APL who nursed all the puppies and gave them what they needed to get strong, and finally they all got adopted.  We adopted Nikita when she was two months old, and gave her a second chance at life and love in a good home.  The APL has a special place in our heart because of this and all that they do, because without their love and care for animals & your donations, we would have never got the wonderful dog we have today.

Have you ever watched those TV commercials of the sad and in much need of help animals that while watching the commercial it tugged at your heart, or you cried?  We see them all the time, and every time, we do cry as it is so sad that people can be so cruel to an animal.  That is why the APL needs your assistance, as your donations can help all of these animals in need.

How You Can Help Collect Donations at Work

  • Ask your employer for a donation from your company
  • Hold a bake sale at the office – Ask everyone to bring in homemade goodies, then sell them and the donations then go to the APL (how much do you think a cupcake should be?)
  • Have employees PAY to dress down or wear jeans on a certain day!  I am sure they would pay anything to do this!
  • Hold a competition between employees to see WHO can collect the most money for the APL

How You Can Personally Help Collect Donations

  • FORWARD the donations link to EVERYONE you know, friends, family, and co-workers, ask your favorite teller at your bank to donate too
  • If you have a Facebook or Twitter account, please post the donations link and ask others for help in making a donation (any donation amount will help no matter the denomination, it all adds up)
  • Printout our APL Pledge For Pets donation sheet and pass them out to everyone you come in contact with. Here is the PDF to print & cutout: 2012 Pledge For Pets Flyer

About the APL

The APL appreciates your generous donation to their Pledge For Pets Radiothon which has made a direct impact on the life-saving work they do.  Each year nearly 17,000 animals come through their doors.  The needs of these animals are many – from emergency care for animals that are victims of abuse and neglect to vaccinations and nutritious food and loving care for those waiting to find their “forever home”.  By making a donation, you have joined a caring group of individuals who believe in the mission of the APL.  Your generosity will help to ensure that the APL will be here for every animal in need.  www.clevelandapl.org

We appreciate your donation & help in getting the word out, as I am living proof that without the APL’s help, I would have never been able to find my “Forever Home” and a second chance at life and love and a great Daddy & Mommy.  Donate today and help other animals get their second chance too!

Love,
Nikita

RESULTS: Pledge for Pets Radiothon

Allan Fee, Mommy, Daddy & Me

Hey everyone, it’s me, Nikita!  It was all about the pets… from every shape and size, doggie, kitty, bunny, or birdie, the 2011 Pledge for Pets Radiothon came to a close on Saturday, May 14th.  Jen Toohey and Allan Fee from Q104 were the on-the-air radio personalities that hosted this event at the Cleveland APL and helped raise donations that totaled $124,745.52!  That is absolutely outstanding and this money will go to such a great cause, helping all of the pets in need that can’t help themselves.  You see, all of these pets at the APL were either rescued from horrible conditions or were surrendered by their owners because they could not take care of them any longer, and all of your donations will help with their much needed medical care, food, water, and electricity for the building, and so much more.

EVERY animal needs a second chance for love and a good home, EVERY animal at the APL has a story behind them (just like I do, as I was adopted from the APL and got a second chance for love & a good home), and their stories are heart-breaking as you listen to them.  You want to adopt them all, you just do, as every pet that the great people at the APL takes care of, they get attached to them so quickly, which is understandable because they are pet lovers with great big hearts!  I could not be happier with my new home & life with my Daddy & Mommy, and I got that chance for happiness the day I rode home with them & was sitting on my new Mommy’s lap.  I was going home…. to somewhere I would be loved, cherished, taken care of, played with every day, fed, and always knew that a spot would be saved for me at the foot of their bed for me to snuggle every night when I closed my eyes.  Pure happiness is what I got!

"Uncle Dave", Me & Daddy

Daddy, Mommy & I made a surprise visit to the APL on Saturday to check out the Pledge for Pets Radiothon.  We met a nice guy from the APL in the parking lot and he remembered me when I was a little puppy and said that he remembered me “smelling like fish”. (not sure what all that was about, but why did I smell like a fish? ) We also got to meet Jen Toohey and Allen Fee from Q104 (we even got to meet Glen Anderson on our way out, he’s the funny song guy at Q104) and Glen’s little cutie of a daughter even got to pet me!  When we walked into the room where the Radiothon was set up, I heard a voice say, “Nikita“!

My APL Friend

Man, everyone knows me at this place!  I got to see all of my favorite APL friends, from Judy Hunter, to Sharon Harvey, my Foster Mom Brea, Uncle Dave (Dave was the nice guy that helped Daddy & Mommy adopt me, that’s why he has a special place in our hearts) and many others that just reached out and hugged me and was surprised at how big I got.   We hung around for awhile to watch the Radio Show live and it was the neatest thing that we ever experienced.  Some of the “Phone Bankers” that were taking the calls for donations even wanted to meet me, so I gladly strolled over to them, strutting my stuff (of course) to receive lots of hugs from them.  I even passed out lots of my blog cards to everyone that I met, so that they can now follow me and watch me grow up!  (One cannot have too many friends, or followers)  I even donated $1 and 2 puppy treats in a little bag to one of the Phone Bankers (even though I sniffed the bag a few times and kinda wanted my treats back), but I wanted everyone to know that Daddy, Mommy, and I personally collected for the APL a total of $174 + my $1 = $175 and we did our part as a Pledge for Pets Captains.  Every little bit helps and I wanted to personally thank all of the people who donated through our First Giving link for the APL – WE APPRECIATE YOUR DONATIONS & GENEROSITY!

All in all, it was a great day for the APL, as your generous donations will make a difference in the care and welfare of a pets life, and ultimately….finding them a “Forever Home“.  Thank you APL for all that you have done for me, you will forever be in my heart!

Warm Puppy Kisses to you…
Nikita

Happy Birthday Donna

It’s a rainy Tuesday here in Cleveland, but it is a special day nonetheless.  It’s Donna’s Birthday!  Donna works with my Daddy and is such a great friend.  She always brings in goodies for everyone at the office, but today, I am sure goodies will be waiting for her instead!  So, if anyone see’s Donna today, make sure you wish her Happy Birthday!

I also wanted to mention that we’re coming down to the wire with collecting donations for the APL, as the Deadline is May 8th for online donations.  If you thought about donating, but forgot, here is your chance to help an animal in need.  Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated, even $1 helps!  DONATE TODAY by clicking on the link & it will take you to the donation page.  Thanks again for those of you who have already donated, we appreciate it greatly & the APL does too!

Puppy Magnetism

Today is going to be my last blog post, as I am hanging it all up!  Ha – April Fools!  Never would I leave you, my fellow followers, on all the things that I am up to on a daily basis, as I am one busy puppy!  Mommy helped me tweak my photo in her photo editing software and I think it turned out really neat.  If I were to put a caption under it, it would probably say…”You are getting sleepy…” or “If I stare at you long enough without blinking, can I get a treat?”

We watched American Idol last night, and we had guessed correctly on “who” was being sent home.  We were just so glad to see, that even though he was on the bottom 3, that Paul ended up being “safe”.  Phew!  Did you know that you can vote online at www.americanidol.com 50 times per person?  We just found that out, but you need to have a Facebook account to do so.  Just a little tid bit that I wanted to share.

I also wanted to say that my wonderful Mommy hurt her knee.  We are still unsure on how she did it, but it is all swollen and she is having a hard time walking on it.  She is putting ice on it, and I sit by her to keep her company and to lick the drips of water from the bag of ice.  Daddy is being a real sweetheart and is helping Mommy out all he can because he loves Mommy so much. (Thanks Daddy)  I hope Mommy gets better soon so she can play with me outside!

Last, but not least, I want to remind everyone that we only have ONE MONTH left to collect donations for the APL for the Doggie Dollars & Kitty Kash.  The APL needs YOUR help and if my fellow followers can donate something….anything… even $1, it will all help the poor unfortunate animals at the APL get all the things that they need.  Click link below to donate – Help us raise money for the APL!  Thank you all in advance of your generosity!

Have a great April Fool’s Day!

Fire at Cleveland APL

I just read some horrible news online about the Cleveland APL, as it appears that a dryer motor caught fire this morning and exposed approximately 100 cats to noxious smoke.  The smoke alarm traumatized the cats, but none of them were injured.

The APL now needs a new dryer, so if anyone can donate one, give them a call asap!   This was a very unfortunate incident, and a good reason to think about donating to this nonprofit group that needs your help for the Pledge for Pets Funraiser.  Any dollar amount will help all of the animals in need – DONATE TODAY through this link:  http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/themesnthings/2011-doggy-dollars-kitty-kash

With loving thoughts,

What’s all the Hoop-la about March Madness?

Hoop Star Nikita!

Hey everyone, it’s me, Nikita!  I hope you all enjoyed your weekend without that “white stuff” called snow, I know that I did!

The one thing that I don’t understand is all this “Hoop-la” about March Madness.  What’s up with that anyway?  I’ve got more action going on in my kitchen with all of my toys than they do on the courts!  As you can see in my photo, I am playing with my official Lebron James #23 Cleveland Cavaliers basketball, and I certainly have more moves than he does!  Ha ha  (from all the reading that I have done, he should have never left Cleveland)   I saw my basketball in my toy chest over the weekend and had to pull it out to play with it, so I was kinda called upon to defend my Hoopstar title of the kitchen!  I can make more free throws into my toy chest than most basketball players, and even when I am under pressure too!   What is most annoying is that my favorite TV shows aren’t on when I want to watch them because of some NCAA Tourney, geez, when is this going to be over already?  I’m a girl, and I would rather play with my toys than watch basketball on TV, am I right girls?  (I know I am

Franken Hedgie has seen better days

Anyhow, Mommy took a lot of my toys out of the “Pet Hospital” on top of the fridge this weekend and sewed them back up for me.  (Thanks Mommy)  My first Hedgehog now named, “Franken Hedgie” because of all the scars he now has sewn all over his face, is now ready for action.  My favorite teddy bear from Grandma now has his ear sewn back on, and I can now snuggle with him at night.  (I missed Teddy while he was in the hospital)  I’ve gotta share with you how big my toy box is one day, as it is overflowing with all kinds of fun things to play with – not all puppies have the things that I do, so that is why I am so thankful for a great Daddy and Mommy.

Teddy getting mended

Daddy, Mommy and I also went to the park for a nice long walk this weekend while the weather was still so nice.  I got to see all kinds of little kids, boys playing basketball, and even got to meet two nice girls who wanted to pet me!  I even did tricks for them & showed off a little on what a good puppy I am.  Boy oh boy, did I take a nice long nap after we got home, I was one tired little puppy!  I guess all of that good ole fresh air got to me, not to mention the nice long walk.  But all in all, had a great weekend!

Until Later,
Puppy Kisses to you – Nikita

I’m 8 Months Old Today!

What a great day it is today!  It started off with Mommy and I waving goodbye to Daddy when he left for work, and I have been glued to the front window (now that we can open our windows with a little warmer weather) watching the birdies frolic in the front yard, all the people driving by in their cars, and I have also been watching my favorite ladies across the street in the medical building.  I saw Maggie open the door because she must have seen me watching out the window and she said “Hi Nikita“, and when I heard her, I got all excited and jumped around and wagged my tail.  (Gosh I love those ladies Maggie & Lisa as they are so nice to me and give me lots of hugs when I go visit)

Mommy also thought that for my 8 month anniversary, that she would try to put on my Halloween tutu for a photo op, but we found out that my tutu that once fit around my waist at Halloween, now only fits around my neck!  WOW, I must be getting older for that to happen!  LOL

Gotta love my floofy hair!

I also wanted to thank everyone who has donated to the DOGGIE DOLLARS & KITTY KASH!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!  Now don’t forget to keep that receipt for your taxes because your donation is tax deductible!   A great big THANK YOU goes out to Angie from Thoughts Appear Blog for her donation today!  Woof woof!

Daddy and Mommy have been busy placing their huge Halloween order for their website www.themesnthings.com and they can’t wait for the awesome & gruesome Halloween order to arrive.  I am not, however, going to be happy when this order arrives because all of this Halloween stuff really scares me!  I will have to hide somewhere when they take all of the items out of the box – boooooooo!  Check out their site and watch for all the new arrivals for the witching hour!

Mommy and I are going to work out in the yard a little today since it is so nice outside.  It is so strange that about a week ago, I was standing in snow really high, and now I can see the green grass and feel warmth on my face.  Boy oh boy, I can’t wait for all the walks that Daddy and Mommy are going to take me on!  Yeah!

I hope that everyone enjoys their day, and gets lots of treats like I do!  Don’t forget to donate today:  http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/themesnthings/2011-doggy-dollars-kitty-kash

Warm sunshine kisses to you,
Nikita
