The Calm Before the Storm, er Snow

We’ve been hearing a lot lately about our weather changes in the news. Some times I believe the weather guy on TV because he has a degree or something in weather-telling and should know what he’s talking about, and sometimes I just wait to see what happens.  Our temperatures have really dropped a lot here lately, and this week was cold, bitter cold.

As of this mornings weather report, our weather and precipitation will be changing… into snow (again).  Rats.  The weather-telling guy said that snow will be hitting us for the next few days through the weekend.  Great, just great.  I have not yet got into the mood of where I can welcome the snow yet, but I guess I am going to have to get my butt in gear and just do it.  It’s coming whether I want it to or not, so I guess I should just deal with it, right?

Anyhow, if anyone wants to hire me to shovel their driveway, give me a call and we can set something up!

All I can do now is wait and see what happens. If it comes, it comes. The dogs will surely love it and we’ll be playing outside making snow doggies for sure!  I am actually looking forward to seeing how my snow craftiness skills will increase this year.  Last year they kinda stunk, as our snowfall was minimal and we did not get much of that heavy “snow packing” white stuff like we had wished.

We’re still working on decorating the front yard with our Christmas lights, and we only have the LED gutter lights and the LED lights for the bushes to do yet, but with the snow on its way this weekend, I am not sure if we can get them up.  Who wants to stand outside in 30 degree temps and decorate? Not me!

Anyhow, our front yard has lots of nice bright lights and I wrapped six of our tomato cages from the garden with red lights and made little Christmas trees by the sidewalk.  If you have any tomato cages, get out your lights and just wrap them around the upside down tomato cage to make your own lighted trees!  You can even connect the light strings in between trees, so add as many tomato cages as you like. Also, since the winds can be a factor and knock over your lighted trees, you will need to stake the bottom of the trees into the grass to hold them in place.

Our wonderful new newlywed neighbors started decorating the front of their house yesterday with Christmas lights too, and getting into the holiday spirit!  That was so cool to see, as their house has not had any life in it for years and we’re glad to see some fun new neighbors!

So, what do you use to decorate your front yard?  Do you use something unique that you would like to share with all of us?  All I can say is…let it snow, I’m ready for ya!

Merry Christmas

Santa in Sleigh Happy Holidays

From all of us at Nikitaland, we wish you and your family a Merriest Christmas and wishing you all the best in the New Year!  We have had another wonderful year of blogging, and have met some of the most wonderful people in the world.  All of you mean the world to us and we hope that we continue to share our love & wonderful stories from our own lives.  We know that at times, each of us can get busy with life in general, and we understand, as we all have our moments of stress, and work/life balance.  We want you to know that we appreciate all of you and love the bond that we share.  We wish you all the best in the new year!

We drove around last night and took photographs of all the Christmas light displays we could find, and what we located was stunning.   I could not wait to get home to view the photographs that I had taken, and I played around in my photo editor and actually added “snow” to some of the photographs to add that special holiday effect.  The photo below is a local fire station all outlined in white lights with the most beautiful tree standing next to the drive.

A few of the light displays were animated and you could tune your car radio into a certain channel to listen to Christmas music as the lights danced to the music.  Nikita sat in the back seat of the car and watched the lights with us, while munching on some treats.

When we returned home, our own Christmas lights looked so bland compared to the wonderful light displays that we saw, but we love our lights none the less and always smile when we see them turn on for the night.

Our House Decorated

While we were watching one animated light display, Santa Claus actually showed up and I snagged a photograph of him on the sidewalk.  I went over and asked Santa to say hi to Nikita (and if you know Nikita, she hates that jolly guy in the red suit) and Santa walked over to our car to say hi, and Nikita started growling at him from the back seat!  We laughed, as we knew what she would do.  (silly dog)

Deck the Halls or Your Neighborhood

Christmas is the perfect time to reflect back, to share love with friends and family and to enjoy the holiday spirit.  Christmas is not always about the gifts, rather it’s about being together with your loved ones.  Let’s face it, we all have busy lives, the hustle and bustle of our hectic work weeks, and the holidays always brings us together for some good food, laughter, and at the end of the evening, you’ll always find the men folk in front of the fire napping and the girls chatting in the kitchen.  Ah, Christmas, memories that will always last.

My Mommy always makes sure that the presents look so beautiful, and it’s a shame when we have to rip into them, but we do.  She designs all of the gift tags herself, and makes sure that each present is adorned with a beautiful bow.  Mommy’s are good at things like that, and I am so thankful for my Mommy.  We can’t wait for Daddy to see what we got him!  He is so special to us and loves us with all his heart!

Christmas is special too for all of the decorations and lights that twinkle in the night.  Mommy took a walk around the neighborhood and got some great photographs of the spirit of Christmas that our neighbors have that light up so beautifully in the cold dark nights.  From lighted dogs, reindeer and snowmen all show signs of the holiday spirit in our neighborhood. (You can even see me looking out the window too!)

I even got a great surprise that my Daddy brought home for me.  My Auntie Rene got me a gift for Christmas!  I have not opened it yet, but I can’t wait to see what she got me.  Thanks so much Auntie Rene for thinking of me at Christmas!

There’s not too many days left until Christmas, and we hope that you have the best Christmas ever.  Just remember, Christmas is not about the gifts or how many you get, it’s all about the love and being with the ones you love and making memories to last a lifetime.  Get into the spirit of the holidays and pick up the phone and reach out to someone this holiday season.  You’ll be happy you did!

I also can’t wait because my Daddy will be on vacation soon so we’ll get to spend a lot of time together playing!  And, we are going to head back down to the Cleveland APL for a visit with all of our friends when Daddy is on vacation.  So, all of you at the APL – – get ready for another visit from me!  I’m coming to see you!
