I knew it would happen sooner or later, and it happened this weekend. The sunflowers that our Auntie Rene gave us, finally started to open. All of the sunflowers seem to be in different stages of growth, and one finally opened up this weekend. Definitely a WOW factor!
I have been keeping a close eye on the sunflowers to see what I would have to fight off these plants, and I have been quite successful, except for two of them perishing to a groundhog attack and being eaten. Three of the five plants are still growing.
This is the first sunflower to open this weekend. I had to climb up on a ladder to photograph this one as it is nearing the top of the garage right now.
It appears, that from the second it opened, the bees were drawn to it like it was smothered in honey or something of the sort. I kept checking on it to capture it opening, and every time, I saw more bees….one, two, three. I watched them closely on top of the ladder, as they just crawled around in circles around the face of the sunflower. My only fear was to have a bee decide to fly at me and I would have fallen off the ladder for sure! (as I was getting pretty close to the sunflower with my camera)
This is the second one, ready to open any day now.
What a beautiful pop of color now added to our garden!
Absolutely WOW, those are beautiful! Your photos are always amazing, but the ones with the bee are top notch! 🙂
Our second one opened yesterday, now we have two to look at. I can’t wait to see all the seeds in the middle!
Agreed! Wow. mamma, wow!
We have three of them now that have opened up, but that first one is the biggest. I can’t wait to see the seeds forming so we can collect them for next year.
Sunflowers are definitely on my short list of plants I’d love to photograph!
Beautiful!
🙂
Hey Ink Guy! (yeah, I know your name, but I like calling you the ink guy) This was the first time in a long time that we grew sunflowers and it was neat to watch how tall it got! Absolutely beautiful is what they are!
fantastic!
Thank you! 🙂
Beautiful!
Thank you!
I love sunflowers. Good for you!
Thanks Hook! It poured rain here today and got really muggy too, and I was hoping that the pouring rain would not damage the just opened sunflower. (it did not)
Glad to hear it!
Wow is right! That sunflower is gorgeous. Nothing more cheerful than sunflowers on a summer’s day.
Hi Jackie! I agree, that sunflower is so cheery! We love it!
Sounds like they’re on steroids, or whatever it is that you take to keep that garden of yours in top notch condition. Maybe next time, Skully can climb up on the ladder so you don’t have to worry about falling.
Oh man…….. now why did I not think of that! I will get Skully to work right away so he can take the next set of photographs of the sunflower! I don’t think he has anything to worry about if he got stung by a bee! The bees can fly right through him! ha ha ha
So amazing. First thought was how great and creative is God? The bees are getting down to work too!
I know! It is really a WOW factor now when we walk into our garden! That is the first of many of them to bloom! It’s a big splash of yellow for sure! Now, all the bees have to do is pollinate more of our pumpkins and we are all set!
sunflowers are great, and a little scary too. they remind me of Stephen Kings “It” – but I like it :o)
Oh man, I did not read that book! I should now! Isn’t it beautiful!
Sunflowers are one of my top flowers ever!!!! I have never been fortunate enough to have them in my garden, so I have had to settle for Sunflower napkins☺ Your photos are gorgeous!
Can you grow them in your area? I should have sent you some seeds! They would look beautiful next to your palm trees!
they are so pretty xx
Hi Misaki! Thank you!
Nice! In Germany they have lots of pick your own flower fields with Sunflowers. We could pick a few and leave a bit of money in a box. They were so fun to see and then have in the house.
Sunflowers are so beautiful! I would love to have a bouquet of them in the house!
Wow, they are stunning! I don’t know why we don’t grow them here, surely we have the climate/ they always remind me of France, I didn’t know they could grow in your part of the world. we are heading to Europe next week so hopefully we’ll see more of them. Kylie xx
Definitely, take some photographs if you find any of them! Yes, we can grow them up here! Click on the photo’s to enlarge them – – it’s amazing all of the layers to a sunflower! We have not grown them for years, so we are excited that we have them in our garden this year!
They are lovely!
Hi ya Rumpy! You are up early this morning! Thanks for stopping by! I am so glad you liked our sunflowers! 🙂
